▻▻ ANDREW BARKER & DANIEL CARTER
For more than four decades now, multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter has been connecting the dots between various high energy disciplines, chasing the fire through groups like guerrilla jazzers Test and William Parker's Other Dimensions In Music, and stepping outside for collaborations with members of Yo La Tengo and The No-Neck Blues Band. Daniel has been an active writer and musician since the mid-60s. He has also recorded or performed with a wide range of collaborators including Joe Morris, Matthew Shipp, William Parker, Yoko Ono, Thurston Moore, Sun Ra, Cecil Taylor, and Sam Rivers, among many others.

Back in 2002, David Keenan said about their collaborative album ‘Common Soldier’: “Barker fills infinitesimally small gaps with dexterous counter-rhythms, while Carter plays up and over the top with odd, lightning zigzags and sweet, honeyed cries. Carter's birdsong melodies alternate with Barker's splashy cymbal work before he dives headfirst into the bowels of the kit for some tough rhythmic strutting”.

Brooklyn based, percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, drummer and composer, Andrew Barker was once referred to as "deliriously creative" by The New York Times back in July 2009. He is well-known for his work with Gold Sparkle Band and William Parker's Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra and has performed with Barker Trio, Michael Foster, Tim Dahl and James Ilgenfritz. Barker became notorious in the late 1990s when Gold Sparkle Band took the New York free jazz scene by storm and were invited to events like the Vision Festival and venues where free speech was practiced.

▻▻ JAIME OSPINA’S CONTEMPORARY ANCESTRAL COLOMBIAN ORCHESTRA
Jaime Ospina has been an Austin resident for the last year and a half after coming from his native Colombia where he used to work as a musician, teacher, and researcher. He started as a rock bass player performing in the club circuit of Bogota until he went to La Habana, Cuba to acquire formal music education. Between 1999 and 2003, Ospina traveled extensively along the Caribbean coast meeting with the masters of the traditional Afro-native Colombian music. In his Orchestra’s sound, native and afro-Colombian elements get together with West African drumming and Texan psychedelia to create this always new and impermanent sound landscape based on in situ looping and improvisation.
