Austin-originated, -- now NYC-hybridized -- Fusion wunderkind PROGGER are back in Austin at their original stomping ground One-2-One Bar tonight, playing a special Halloween show as part of their most-recent, what promises to be a great (if seemingly somewhat logistically-challenged), tour across multiple cities in the US. The band is celebrating their third release "SCATTERING" from a few months back, their first under the NYC-based Ropeadope banner.
Founder-frontman-chief composer Brian Donohoe, who switches seamlessly between Sax and Keys, moved from Austin to NYC a couple of years ago, resulting in the new CD being a hybrid of stylistic explorings encompassing musicians from both Austin and NYC. For perennial Progger fans, tonight's show promises to celebrate the new songs from Scattering (and more), plus many of the old favorites (like Nuclear Jet-Ski) with the original crew comprising local guitar faves Carter Arrington and Matt Muehling, augmented by the stellar rhythm-section work of Nick Clark (b, k), Daniel Watson (d), Sean Giddings (k), and the heavyweight 'bone work of Paul Deemer. A powerhouse show awaits. This writer is especially keen to witness the relentless execution and melodic guitar-duo harmonization that the Arrington-Muehling duo has come to be.
And as if this wasn't enough Halloween candy for fusion freaks, the evening's cake is iced further with the formidable guitar stylings of two Austin guitar greats and their trios -- legend CHRIS DUARTE, and axeman-singer-songwriter-extraordinaire DAVE SCHER.
Set schedule is as follows (ticket links & FB event links below; tickets available at the door also. $10.)
7:30-8:30 -- Chris Duarte Trio
